The reality is, in a transnational economy, businesses naturally gravitate toward monopolies.
Hence, Megacorps.
Whoever fills a niche most efficiently, in terms of profit, fills the entire niche.
Occasional mismanagement or externality is the only thing standing between any business being "the biggest" in its industry and "the only" in its industry.
And if that mismanagement or externality happens WHILE the company has a monopoly...
Well, in the case of media studios, pop cultural wasteland.
It could have been worse. It could have been the power company.
